Abstract :
Volcanoes interact with water in ways that fundamentally influence eruptive styles, particle‑emplacement mechanisms, and the hazards that follow. In this seminar, I will present an overview of my research through a selection of representative studies that span a wide range of environments where magma, volcanic products, and water meet. These include investigations of shallow‑water explosive eruptions, experimental work on particle transport in subaqueous settings, assessments of volcanic hazards in continental volcanic fields where lava may interact with water, and regional evaluations of seamount‑related risks. I will also discuss recent efforts to understand volcanic meteotsunamis and the atmospheric–oceanic processes that generate them. Together, these works illustrate a career focused on deciphering how water, whether in the ocean, lakes, or the subsurface, modulates volcanic processes and shapes the hazards they pose to society.
