On October 19, 2026, ESA announced the appointment of new scientists associated with the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) mission. Benjamin Bultel, a lecturer and researcher at GEOPS, is the only French national on this list. He proposed an innovative program to study the mineralogy of Mars using the CaSSIS instrument.

This announcement was made during the celebration marking the 10th anniversary of the ExoMars TGO mission, in which Benjamin Bultel and Frédéric Schmidt participated. GEOPS’s contribution focuses on studying the surface of Mars from a geological and climatic perspective, using remote sensing tools to characterize ice and minerals in order to understand the history of the Red Planet.
