GEOPS will organise the 20th Congress of the Association of French Sedimentologists (ASF) from 27 to 29 October 2026 on the Paris-Saclay University campus. This will be the first time that this major event for the geosciences community has been held on our campus.
The second most important national geosciences event after the Réunion des Sciences de la Terre (RST), the ASF conference is held every two years, alternating with the RST. Since its inception in 1987, it has attracted an average of 300 participants.
The 2026 edition will feature three days of scientific sessions (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), complemented by seven geological field trips organised on Monday 26 and Friday 30 October. A careers forum for students, as well as a guest lecture by Jérôme Gaillardet on the critical zone, open to all, will further enrich the programme.
In total, 28 scientific sessions will be divided into 10 themes covering the major fields of sedimentology: sedimentary processes in marine and continental environments, palaeoenvironments, geodynamics and basin architecture, amongst others. Several sessions will also highlight key research areas at Paris-Saclay University, such as basins and resources, diagenesis, palaeoclimates and high-latitude processes. An opening theme will focus on the critical zone, and cross-cutting geoscience themes will address digital technology, geopatrimony, and national programmes such as the PEPR Sous-sol, bien commun and the Référentiel Géologique de la France.
A friendly atmosphere and networking opportunities will be encouraged through coffee breaks and lunches organised on-site, whilst a gala evening will be held in Paris on a barge.
The call for papers is open until 1 June 2026.
