Glacial environments

The consequences of climate change are particularly significant in high-latitude environments, where glaciers, snow cover and permafrost are disappearing at an alarming rate. These rapid changes affect surface processes, with consequences for natural hazards that are relatively poorly understood. This is particularly the case with glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), which result from the draining of glacial lakes following the breach of a moraine or ice dam.

Aims of the research theme: Our research aims to reconstruct the evolution of glaciers and associated natural hazards during the Holocene, based on sedimentary records from fjords and lakes.
